This study was performed to examine the effect of the dihydropyridine calcium antagonist, nicardipine, on the pial vessels following experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage(SAH) in the rabbit. Intravenous nicardipine solutions of various
concentrations,
were injected at 6 hour after intractisternal injection of autogenous blood. Nicardipine was administered 3 different concentrations, 20§¶/kg(Goup I), 40§¶/kg(Group II) and 60§¶/kg(Group III). Diameter variations of 90 arterial and 76 venous
vessel
segments were continously analyzed using micrometer eyepiece on operating microscope.
@ES The results were as follows :
@EN After intravenous nicardipine injection, contracted pial vessels from animals subjected to experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage were significantly dilated when compared with control group. The dilatation of artery, particulary in small pial
artery,
was prominent. But the effects of the injection of nicardipine on pial vein was little.
